First reds of #harvest26! Petite Sirah and Grenache - small, curated batches that will be an amazing addition to our cellar, grown locally and picked by hand. I think the vines and fruit are beautiful, and I’m so excited to share this fruit with you!
Harvest 2026 is here! We brought in 1.5 tons of beautiful viognier yesterday, a surprise take. We knew this year would be early, but this takes the record. Whites and rosés are our longest days - we pick, process, and press in the same day. With the heat this year, it’s going to be a challenge keeping everything cool enough (dry ice - and cold beer - is our best friend!).

Our goats (plus Brad, who’s really a sheep) have been working hard to keep the vineyard and donkey pasture trimmed - there’s a lot of green after the winter rains! Every animal on the farm eats different weeds/grasses, and we’re still experimenting with rotating them at various times of the year. We love watching them work! Especially with glass of wine in hand :)

We rescued a 6 year old labradoodle last month - she’s making herself right at home! Barley says he’s fine with her (the cats are still deciding). Gracie’s super sweet and loves to run the property, snuggle on the couch, and follow me from room to room. The floor is still lava, so that makes things interesting in the house!

While we’ve been working in the winery, our sheep (that’s Dolly) and pigs (Petunia and Gilbert) have been enjoying afternoons off. We’ve had amazing weather - but preparing for rain (and budbreak) soon! While our flock/herd are munching our cover crop most days, they also love taking time to nap/scratch their butts.

It’s hard to believe we’re in the middle of winter… Graham (on the rock cave), Petunia (in the wallow next to the pig pool), and Spot (the only goat with spots) enjoyed the sunshine today! The cover crop is coming in, but is being meticulously managed by our sheep, pig, and goat crew. It’s rewarding to see the height of the grass on the “other” side of the fence - the menagerie is definitely working!

Harvest continues! Two estate rosés are currently fermenting, we pressed the Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon yesterday - and then got another 1.5 tons of Cab! We brought in our Malbec and some Petit Verdot yesterday - we pressed a rose for each of them, and the color is lovely! It was a long day and I am grateful for all my volunteers (even the littlest ones - the 3year old said I was doing a good job on the forklift!).
Hoping the Petit Verdot ripens a bit more for red wine with the sunshine this week!

Hellooooo! Ruby here, Melani is feeling better but with her managing harvest, home & winery improvements, and bottling (who schedules bottling during harvest anyway? Geez), she’s been slacking on keeping y’all updated. So here I am! Everything is going good here, I haven’t seen anyone picking my grapes yet so all us animals are still stuck outside the vineyard (besides the pigs 🙄). Pretty sure Melani was working on an email this morning instead of petting me (Joey tried really hard to talk her into coming out by chewing on the door frame) so keep an eye out for that. I discovered some vines that seem to be struggling - it took me a minute, but I found the culprit. Since it’s underground, it was hard to find, but I’m thankful for my flowmeter sensors and weekly checks throughout the vineyard that alerted me to an issue.

Today is Brad’s #gotchaday! Can you believe he’s only one year old?! Brad has so much personality, energy, and love for Papa that it feels like he’s been here forever… We got him when he was one day old, so technically he is no longer a lamb - but it feels like he outgrew that ages ago. He’s much bigger, smarter, and horn-ey-r than he was when we first got him, but he’s still so cute and so much fun.
Our “Naughty Kitties” are learning their new environment and path to their food, now that we’ve moved everything around. Biggie (pictured) and Smalls are our #winerycats and have done a great job keeping the rodents down - both in the winery and the vineyard. But I get a stare down from Biggie whenever I move his food - or don’t give him his favorite treats!

Too much of a good thing? Yes please! We had some extra estate Petit Verdot last harvest… so we made rosé! This bold beauty is deep pink, bursting with aromas of strawberry jam, fruit leather, guava, and lavender fields. Picked at ripeness, our PVR is less acidic and more robust, making it a perfect choice for our red wine drinkers. Pair with smokey meats, aged cheeses, or a sultry summer sunset.
I only made 25 cases of this, so it’s wine club only - but if you’re joining me at the Under the Estrella Sky Winemakers Event with the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail next month, you’ll get to enjoy it as the second course pairing - and get a chance to take some home!

The vines aren’t the only ones blooming around here! Our prickly pear cactus and oleander seem to be enjoying the drought year, and are putting on a show by the front gate. We like drought-tolerant plants (especially pretty ones) since we don’t have to water them, but these guys aren’t animal (or people!) friendly, so they get to flourish outside the fence.

Bloom is just finishing up in our Malbec, & fruit set is happening! All the little flowers that bloomed (and survived the winds) will now create the grape berry. Small and tart, they’ll stay green until July-ish. We just finished our spring application of @blackdiamondvermicompost and our @sipcertified vineyard is looking very happy!
